October 2018

New Members of Our Team

Superintendent Dr. Marty Semmel

The 2018-19 school year is off to a great start for Plymouth Public Schools. On August 29, 2018, staff welcomed over 1,400 students back for a new year. Members of the Board of Education and Central Office staff toured all four schools on the first day and were greeted with enthusiasm. Among the new faces this fall are six certified teachers new (or returning) to the district. The new teachers came together the Friday before school started for an orientation and were introduced to the policies, procedures, and expectations of the Plymouth Public Schools. The interesting aspect here is that none of the new teachers are in their first year of teaching! We were very lucky this year to bring in a team with over 50 years of prior teaching and a wealth of experiences.

At Plymouth Center School we welcome back Ms. Sarah Trudeau to the Board of Education Preschool Program. Sarah will have a morning and an afternoon class and is returning to Plymouth Center School after having previously worked in the Family Resource Center Program while she was working on her teaching certification.

Eli Terry Jr. Middle School is welcoming two new teachers. Mrs. Becky Lyman is a Special Education teacher who will be working with our STAR program. Becky recently returned to Connecticut after several years in Florida so she could be closer to family. Becky is artistic and enjoys time with family and her pets, especially her pug Lola!

Mrs. Sarah Langsam is a part time Speech and Language Pathologist working at both Eli and Terryville High School. She was exposed to our district through contracted services and decided to come work directly for us!. When Sarah is not busy supporting students to success she is spending time with her own four children and practicing interior design.

Terryville High School has three new teachers. Mrs. Samantha Chiasson joins the math department as a third year teacher. Recently married in a ceremony and reception she largely “crafted” herself, Sam comes to us from Shepaug and has a true passion for math and travelling. Mr. Wayne Prescott joins us as the District Library Media Specialist. He is housed at THS and will help coordinate the library staff at the other three schools as well. Wayne hails from the midwest originally and teaching is his second career after a start in finance. When not at school Wayne can be found cycling, reading and enjoying good food! Mr. Russell Fuller is our new technology education teacher and has many years of experience teaching in Berlin and an extensive list of volunteer activities and hobbies including firefighting, racing cars, and restoring Airstream trailers. He looks forward to sharing his passions with his students as he is a fourth generation technology education teacher!

Please join us in wishing these teachers and all of our students a wonderful school year!
